Photoexacerbation of other conditions
Some dermatologic conditions can be exacerbated by ultraviolet or visible light. Such exacerbations are quite uncommon, but when they occur there can be a significant management problem.
Conditions which can sometimes be aggravated by exposure to ultraviolet light include:- Herpes simplex infection
- Rosacea
- Psoriasis
- Pityriasis rubra pilaris
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
- Atopic dermatitis
- Acne
- Collagen vascular disease, especially lupus erythematosus
- Lichen planus
- Photosensitivity disorders such as the porphyrias, pellagra
- Genodermatoses such as Rothmund-Thomson syndrome
