Orf
Orf, caused by a para pox virus, is a disease of sheep and goats, and of those who look after them.
Lesions begin as a small, firm, reddish-blue papule that enlarges to form a flat topped hemorrhagic pustule. Bullae may develop and the center may be umbilicated. Lesions may be solitary or multiple.
Lesions spontaneously remit within six weeks.
A secondary erythema multiforme or other erythema reaction pattern may develop.
Treatment:
- Treatment is rarely necessary as the eruption spontaneously remits.
- If bullous lesions become secondarily infected with bacteria, that secondary infection should be treated.
