Dermatology Glossary

Nodular fasciitis

Nodular fasciitis is a benign proliferation of fibroblasts that can histologically resemble those seen in fibrosarcoma.
Most common before middle age, the lesion appears as a 1 to 4 cm tender nodule, most often on the forearm.

Treatment:

  • Surgical excision is the treatment of choice.
  • As fibrosarcoma may be in the histologic differential diagnosis, excision should be complete.
