Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis

Giant cell histiocytoma
Multicentric giant cell reticulohistiocytosis
Reticulohistiocytic granuloma

Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis is a histiocytic proliferative disease which produces a mutilating arthropathy, as well as skin and mucous membrane lesions.
The classical skin lesions are yellow-brown papules and plaques over the extensor surfaces, face and ears.
Skin lesions can ulcerate and nail dystrophy is common.
Mucosal involvement with nodules is common.
There is probably an association with increased incidence of solid tumor internal malignancy.

Treatment:

  • There is no good treatment.
  • Cyclophosphamide and other immunosuppressives are sometimes of value.
