Leukemia cutis
In patients with leukemia, infiltrates of the skin are not uncommon. Infiltrations of the skin are most commonly produced by monocytic or myelomonocytic leukemia, which can produce a diffuse infiltration of the face (leonine facies).
The infiltrated skin usually has a purple hue.
Involvement of the skin can be a presenting feature in the myelomonocytic leukemia, although generally it occurs late in the course of the disease.
Treatment:
- Treatment of the systemic leukemia usually results in clearing of the skin lesions.
- Lesions also respond well to local radiotherapy.
