Dermatology Glossary

Ichthyosis hystrix

The term ichthyosis hystrix is usually restricted to a localized lesion resembling a very hyperkeratotic epidermal nevus, but which on biopsy histologically demonstrates epidermolytic hyperkeratosis.

Treatment:

  • Small lesions can be surgically excised.
  • Partial ablation of larger lesions with cautery or laser causes a scar, although that can be an improvement on the original lesion.
