Erysipeloid
Erysipeloid is an acute skin infection caused by Erysipelothrix insidiosa (previously called rhusiopathiae).
Usually contracted through a puncture wound from fish spines, or animal bones, the eruption develops as an expanding red ring, often with a vesicular, gyrate border.
Systemic symptoms are uncommon, and systemic spread is rare.
Treatment:
- In most cases, healing occurs without treatment within 2 weeks.
- Penicillin G or a cephalosporin can shorten the time to healing.
