Bacillary angiomatosis

Bacillary angiomatosis is an exuberant proliferation of granulation tissue caused by Bartonella henselae.
Skin lesions can resemble those seen in Kaposi's sarcoma.

Most cases are persons with concomitant AIDS. It is now rare in those on anti-retroviral therapy

Treatment:

• Appropriate antibiotics for the cultured organism. Erythromycin 500mg qid for 2-3 months, Doxycycline and a number of other antibiotics can be used.
